Memorial Service and tour of the aircraft carrier Midway
Annual reunion banquet including cocktails served at the bar (at your expense)
|
CDR James J. Housinger, commanding officer of the
USS John Paul Jones DDG53,
was the guest speaker at our annual reunion banquet. Both the Cecil and the
John Paul Jones were built at the Bath Maine Iron Works, the Cecil in 1945
and 48 years later the John Paul Jones in 1993. Clearly, the John Paul
Jones is not your father's destroyer.
The Skipper gave an informative talk
on the role of the destroyer today and how it changes daily. He provided a
clear summary of his ship's advanced weapons systems and it's mission to rapidly
respond to changes in strategy obviated by the war against terror. Throughout his
talk, CDR Housinger continually emphasized the role of his crew and how well trained
they were to meet any challenge they may be called upon to face. He left us with
a comfortable feeling that today's destroyer sailors are "Second to None". Does
that sound familiar?
